The first part is mostly about definitions and general provisions for labor regulation. It contains ten chapters, with various sections within them. The second chapter of the code deals with types of work, including regulating working hours and breaks. The third chapter deals with wages and payslips, while the fourth covers sickness absence benefits.

Chapter five discusses matters related to employment contracts – termination of the contract and resignations. Chapter six covers employment disputes, including those related to discrimination (by age or gender). Chapter seven talks about maternity leave benefits and parental leaves (in case you want some time off to take care of your children). You can do this by applying through the Russian consulate or embassy in your home country. Foreign Workers Compensation Fund (FWCF)
If you are working for a company which is registered with the Foreign Workers Compensation Fund (FWCF), then your employer is responsible for ensuring that you are covered. If your employer does not offer coverage, or if you do not work for an FWCF-registered company, then it’s up to you to buy coverage from the FWCF. The price of FWCF insurance depends on how long you will be living and working in Russia and can vary from $3-$7 USD per day.
Temporary Residence Permits
If you are working for an international company and plan on staying in Russia more than 180 days, you may qualify for temporary residence. Temporary residence permits allow you to stay and work in Russia indefinitely and can be renewed every year. There are two types of temporary residency permits: D visas (long-term) and F visas (temporary). The F visa is only good for three months, but it can be renewed if your contract lasts longer than three months.
Extending Residency Permit
If you want to extend your residency permit, then you will need an employer who is willing and able to help you with this process. This means that the company needs to be willing to register and pay for your work permit, and also be registered by Rosmolodezh. If you have been working at this company for more than three months, they should have already done this. If not, they will need to apply for registration within 15 days of hiring you.

Employment opportunities for foreign doctors outside Moscow and St. Petersburg
Russia is one of the most challenging places for foreigners to work. There are few opportunities for doctors outside Moscow and St. Petersburg, where the majority of hospitals are located. The best chance for foreign doctors looking for work in Russia is in teaching positions or at international organizations like Doctors without Borders (MSF) or United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
